Gps dog collar12/29/2023 ![]() I asked Fi what the deal was and they said in the interest of extending battery life they have to sacrifice gps accuracy and update frequency. I could strap my old iPhone 5 to my dog and track it via Google Maps location sharing and I would have it in real time, accurate down to a few feet, and it would still last a few hours. ![]() I don't see why these products are so faulty. Outside the Safe Area, I have it set to update every 1-3 minutes and it either takes longer or simply drops connection altogether and gives me a false "Dog is back home" notification. No location data if the collar is connected to wifi, and my house wifi goes pretty darn far. Whistle - I've only tested it for one day, but I am not impressed. This much of a delay doesn't help keep your dog out of your neighbor's yard that is 100 yds away (we live in the countryside - no fences). Fi usually didn't update for a solid 5-15 minutes, and sometimes I had to force close the app and re-open it, then it'd update and I'd get the notifications I should have been getting for the past 30 minutes. So far, I've tried Fi (super disappointing) and Whistle Switch (meh). One feature which also seems nice, but doesn't really work, is the activity tracker. This is a forum on dog training and behavior that focuses on a least intrusive, minimally aversive approach. Meaning once you start walking out of your home, it might do nothing for 10 minutes and then jump from your home to 800 meters away.Īnd secondly, because GPS isn't always super accurate, even if you stay at home, the GPS might place you 20 meters outside, and then think that you have left. This happens to save battery and network usage. But there are two problems with it, as many people bring out in their reviews.įirstly, the device might "sleep" for a bit, if it doesn't move much. You can set up virtual fences, so that you can be notified "immediately". It has an LED light, which you can turn on, but since it is only one directional and not that big, then you only really use it for understanding if the device is charging or not. ![]() It would maybe help you find it in a drawer. The device can emit a small sound, but it's not very loud. This is great for making the battery last longer, as the device does not have to send as much data when it sees your home-WiFi. There are some power saving mode features which look at your Wifi to see if your dog is home. You can see where your dog has been by at the History view. ![]() This will drain the battery, but it will tell you exactly where your dog is.
